Back pain is one of the most common problems I see in my Dry Needling clinic & Acupuncture Clinic in Tampa, FL.
Here’s a quick patient win where for a 47 year old male who had a L5/s1 lumbar discectomy surgery. He was still dealing with pain and spasms 2 years later and taking muscle relaxers and pain killers.
After 4 treatments we were able to get his pain down from an 8/10 to a 3/10, which if this were surgery, would be a miracle. The good news is that this is something I see happen everyday with dry needling and electro-acupuncture!
What I do different with Dry Needling & Electro-Acupuncture
First thing first, I perform a COMPREHENSIVE manual assessment to see what’s working well and what’s not functioning when it comes to your muscles, nerves, and biomechanics. It’s amazing how many people say I’m the first person to actually touch their back or feel around in places where they hurt. Then I use a combination of procedures to help restore function to your nerves (which control pain signals and your muscles), hunt for trigger points (which can cause pieces of your pain), and restore stability and function to your tissues. Unlike your regular acupuncturist or physical therapist who only took a short weekend course and just pokes and prays a single muscle or two, I take this super comprehensive approach!
The good news
Dry needling & Electro-Acupuncture CAN help you with back pain, even if you’re had surgery for your back and still have pain. In the end, you feel better faster when you go to someone who treats 50 people a week with problems just like you have. It pays to find someone with expert experience and a thirst for knowledge, like me ;).
A note
This patient will continue to need a series of treatments to stabilize his back and knee his nerves from not being so irritated. Acupuncture isn’t magic and not everyone responds this quickly.
