When it comes to headaches, there are 3 kinds
- Tension-type headache (TTH)
- Cervicogenic headache (CGH)
- Migraine
The first step is an in-depth physical exam to attempt to recreate your headaches. If you haven’t had a hands on evaluation for your headaches and only tried medications, then your doctors have done a huge disservice and likely missed the cause of your headaches. I can’t tell you how many times I see patients who are diagnosed with “Migraines” but who really have tension headaches or cervicogenic (headaches that come from the neck). When it comes to Tension Type Headaches and Cervicogenic Headaches, The synthesis of results showed that dry needling could significantly improve headache frequency, health-related quality of life, trigger point tenderness, and cervical range of motion in TTH and CGH.
