When it comes to pain, the way I view the body and design treatments is so dramatically different than traditional pain management.
From a logical, evidence based viewpoint we should really be doing exactly the opposite of what your regular doctor and standard of care that insurance reimburses for.
For example, if you’re treating someone with back pain as a traditional interventional spine physician, you’re taught to identify the most painful structure and inject steroids or kill the nerve carrying those pain signals.
But that causes SO many issues – now your nerves cannot sense where your joints are in time & space. Leading to further degeneration.
Or the steroids have caused degeneration and weakness in the connective tissue surrounding the injection – leading to further degeneration.
Instead of killing nerves or trying to squash inflammation with harmful steroids – why don’t we just hit the reset button on the nerves and help them to function correctly? In turn this stabilizes joins and corrects sloppy movement, leading to more stability and better function. This leads to less pain.
Seems so simple when you think about it. And that’s exactly what I do everyday with dry needling & electro-acupuncture. I like to call this approach functional neuromodulation.
You have the power to choose a different option.
