Yesterday morning I had 3 back to back patients who had numbness and tingling in their arm. This is a common problem that can be caused by a couple of different issues. Let’s dive into what I see most in clinic.
The Main Culprit for Arm Numbness When Sleeping
The most common cause of arm numbness and tingling I see in clinic is a tight Scalene and tight Pec Minor compressing the nerves that make your arm work. This is usually do to the position you sleep. The good news is that there are a couple of simple solutions to treat this problem and help it go away for good.
Here’s a picture of the 2 muscles (scalene & pec minor) and the nerve bundle (brachial plexus) that runs under them that is getting entrapped causing your numbness and tingling.
Treatment Options for Arm Numbness
Acupuncture & Dry Needling for Arm Numbness and Tingling
Acupuncture & dry needling work by treating the affected muscles and reducing tightness.
Dr. Josh will evaluate how you move your neck and shoulder and determine the exact muscles that are not doing their job. Once a thorough evaluation has been performed, we will work on fixing those dysfunctional muscles and irritated nerves.
Acupuncture & Dry Needling work to restore function, increase blood flow and speed up the healing process.
Prolozone Injection for Numbness and Tingling
Prolozone is one of my favorite treatments for numbness and tingling because it works on so many different levels.
There are 3 main contributors when it comes to pain – 1) Structural issues (muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, etc) 2) Biochemical changes (inflammation, and the substances irritated nerves secrete)3) Neurological (this includes irritated nerves, called neurogenic inflammation)
Prolozone injections treat all 3 contributors of pain.
Prolozone is an all natural injection of vitamins, anti-inflammatory Traumeel and Ozone. This helps reset your nerves, calm down inflammation, and restart the healing process by jump starting your cells.
I haven’t seen a more effective treatment for numbness and tingling than Prolozone.
The Bottom Line
Dealing with numbness and tingling in your arm is a real hassle. Over the counter medications aren’t effective, muscle relaxers are just a bandaid and your orthopedic doctor won’t have any good interventions they can perform to help reduce the discomfort. The good news is you don’t have to go down the path of endless doctors visits from specialist to specialist, months of physical therapy and hassle. There are better, more effective treatment options!
