Neck Pain Treatment in Tampa, FL

Neck pain that keeps coming back — no matter how much you stretch, adjust, or massage it — usually means the pain generator has not been found yet. That is what the exam is for.

Find the generator first

What can generate neck pain

Trigger points in the traps, levator, and SCM The most common neck pain generators — they also refer pain into the head and shoulder blade.
Facet joint irritation Small neck joints that get inflamed and lock movement into a painful, guarded range.
Old whiplash or ligament strain Tissue that never rebuilt after an old injury keeps recreating the pattern.
Nerve pathway irritation Occipital and cervical nerves can drive pain up into the head or down the arm.
The jaw Clenching and TMJ problems feed tension straight into the neck.

These need different treatment — which is why your first visit is a hands-on Pain Mapping Visit: palpation, movement testing, and targeted examination designed to reproduce your familiar pain and find the tissue that matches your actual complaint.

Then treat the target

The tool depends on what we find.

Treatment happens the same day when appropriate — and then we recheck. Can you move better? Did the familiar pain change? Your response refines the diagnosis and builds the plan.

From our Google reviews

“This has truly been life-changing. I used to need weekly chiropractic visits for my neck because my muscles kept causing it to go out. Since starting care here, I haven’t been back to the chiropractor in six months. I feel better than I have in years.”

Questions, answered

Neck Pain, explained

Why does my neck keep “going out”?

Often because the muscles guarding the area have active trigger points that keep pulling the segment back into dysfunction. Treating the joint alone without releasing the muscular generators is why the relief does not hold.

Can neck problems cause my headaches?

Yes — very commonly. Suboccipital and upper trapezius trigger points and irritated occipital nerves refer pain directly into the head. Many “tension headaches” are actually neck-driven.

I sit at a computer all day. Is this just posture?

Posture contributes, but posture alone rarely explains pain that persists for months. Sustained positions overload specific tissues — the exam finds which ones actually became pain generators, and those are treatable.

What if the pain goes down my arm?

Arm symptoms can come from nerve root irritation, but also from trigger points that refer down the arm in specific patterns. Telling these apart changes the treatment completely — which is exactly what the mapping exam does.

How do I start?

Book a Pain Mapping Visit ($150). We map the likely generators, treat the target the same day, recheck your response, and build your plan.

Meet your doctor

Dr. Josh Hanson, DACM

I’m the doctor people come to when pain has become something they thought they had to live with forever.

My approach is simple: map the painful tissues with a thorough hands-on exam, identify the exact muscle, tendon, joint, fascia, or nerve creating the pain signal, and treat that target directly using the best tool for the job. Many patients tell me I’m the first doctor who actually took the time to put his hands on the painful areas instead of just looking at images.

Over a decade in practice and more than 35,000 procedures later, I’ve treated patients other clinics gave up on.
